Partners

IGEN is an alliance of disciplinary societies, research centers, and other organizations dedicated to advancing equity in STEM graduate education. We are working in partnership with academic departments and national labs that are working to broaden participation of Black, Latinx, and Indigenous students and scholars in their organizations.


  • AAAS SEA Change
    AAAS STEMM Equity Achievement (SEA) Change is a comprehensive initiative that implements a proven self-assessment process to effect sustainable change with regard to diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEMM at U.S. institutions of higher education.
  • ADVANCEGeo Partnership
    The ADVANCEGeo program aims to catalyze behavioral and cultural change through interventions at the individual and collective level, including bystander intervention education, and organizationally through the development of ethical codes of conduct that frame harassment, bullying, and discrimination as scientific misconduct.
  • AAS American Astronomical Society_IGEN2021
    The American Astronomical Society (AAS), one of the founding partners of IGEN, is working to bring equity and to increase inclusion in graduate education and in post-graduate research opportunities in astronomical sciences.
  • ACS logo
    The American Chemical Society is one of five scientific societies that have founded IGEN to increase the participation of underrepresented minorities in graduate studies in the chemical science and chemical engineering.

    The AGU, a founding partner of IGEN, has launched its Graduate Bridge Program working towards increasing minority representation in geological sciences.
  • American Mathematical Society logo
    The American Mathematical Society (AMS) is the newest partner of Inclusive Graduate Education Network (IGEN). The AMS will collaborate within the mathematical sciences community to develop a framework to promote equity, diversity and inclusion in graduate education and in post graduate research opportunities in the mathematical sciences.

    The American Physical Society (APS) is a founding society partner of IGEN. Since 2012, its APS Bridge Program partners have helped to close the gap in participation of Black, Latinx and Indigenous participation in physics graduate studies.

    Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) has partnered with IGEN to network with graduate students in IGEN Partner programs and increase the use of inclusive mentoring practices in national laboratories by engaging in the development and testing of mentorship curricular resources.
  • Aspire Alliance
    The Aspire Alliance seeks to develop inclusive and diverse STEM faculty across the nation by aligning and reinforcing professional development, hiring, and retention practices of STEM faculty.
  • Brookhaven National Laboratory
    Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) has partnered with IGEN to network with graduate students in IGEN Partner programs and increase the use of inclusive mentoring practices in national laboratories.
  • CIMER logo
    The University of Wisconsin-Madison is home to the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER). CIMER, an IGEN Alliance Partner, is charged with Improving the research mentoring relationships for mentees and mentors at all career stages through the development, implementation and study of evidence-based and culturally-responsive interventions. CIMER faculty and staff investigate approaches for improving research mentoring relationships for IGEN and its partner institutions.

    The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) has partnered with IGEN to network with graduate students in IGEN Partner programs and increase the use of inclusive mentoring practices in national laboratories.

    The Geoscience Alliance informs undergraduates about the value of graduate education and helps to demystify the process of applying to graduate school. They partner with the AGU program to promote Bridge opportunities.

    The University of Southern California Pullias Center of Higher Education is home to the Research Hub, an IGEN Alliance partner, which works collaboratively to provide critical research identifying effective practices that lead to inclusive graduate STEM education.
  • Jet Propulsion Laboratory
    JPL has partnered with IGEN to network with graduate students in IGEN Partner programs and increase the use of inclusive mentoring practices in national laboratories by engaging in the development and testing of mentorship curricular resources.

    LBNL has partnered with IGEN to network with graduate students in IGEN Partner programs and increase the use of inclusive mentoring practices in national laboratories.

    NOBCChE helps to inform undergraduates about the value of graduate education and helps to demystify the process of applying to graduate school. They partner with the ACS program to promote Bridge opportunities.

    The U.S. National Science Foundation is committed to expanding the opportunities in STEM to people of all racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities and to persons with disabilities.

    NSBP seeks to develop and support efforts to increase opportunities for African Americans in physics and to increase their numbers and visibility of their scientific work. They partner with the APS program to promote Bridge opportunities.
  • National Society of Hispanic Physicists
    NSHP seeks to develop and support efforts to increase opportunities for Hispanics in physics and to increase the number of practicing Hispanic physicists. They partner with the APS program to promote Bridge opportunities.
  • NPRLG
    NPRLG is an independent organization of Research Experiences for Undergraduates physics site directors working with the APS to further the collective interests of physics REU programs. They partner with the APS program to promote Bridge opportunities.
  • Rochester Institute of Technology
    RIT is home to the Inclusive Practices Hub, a founding partner of IGEN, which provides holistic review training and other learning opportunities to learn about effective inclusive graduate education practices.
  • SACNAS
    The Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) is an inclusive organization dedicated to fostering the success of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans, from college students to professionals, in attaining advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in STEM.
  • Sandia National Laboratory
    SNL has partnered with IGEN to network with graduate students in IGEN Partner programs and increase the use of inclusive mentoring practices in national laboratories.

  • Southeastern Compact for Inclusive Student Transitions in Engineering and Physical Sciences

    SCI-STEPS graduate programs will review and consider applications collected from Alliance Application Aggregation programs. In addition, they will share resources with the IGEN Hubs and participate in Alliance meetings as appropriate.
