Alvina J. Atkinson joined the American Mathematical Society in March 2024 as the Program Manager for the IGEN Mathematics Initiative. This initiative marks the start of the work to build a program to bridge the gaps in opportunities afforded to Black, Indigenous, Latine, Pacific Islander, Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian students in the mathematical sciences.

The American Mathematical Society (AMS) is the newest partner of Inclusive Graduate Education Network (IGEN). The AMS will collaborate within the mathematical sciences community to develop a framework to promote equity, diversity and inclusion in graduate education and in post graduate research opportunities in the mathematical sciences.
