Cynthia Fuhrmann, PhD, is Assistant Dean of Career & Professional Development in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Associate Professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Pharmacology at UMass Medical School (UMMS). Trained as a chemist/structural biologist, Fuhrmann has 15 years of experience directing programs and curricula in professional development for graduate students and postdocs in the sciences. She has innovated career development approaches and developed national resources, including as co-author of myIDP, an interactive career-planning website hosted by AAAS that is used by more than 200,000 scientists worldwide. Her scholarly work in graduate education has been funded by NSF, NIH, and Burroughs Wellcome Fund. Her engagement in scholarship and national consortia have informed her role leading Professional Development Hub, an emerging, cross-stakeholder national initiative to advance evidence-based practices in STEM PhD career development.
