The Genentech Foundation has provided a grant to support the ACS Bridge Project, which will allow the ACS to support additional Bridge programs. The APS National Mentoring Community (NMC) held its 2020 Conference in partnership with the National Society of Black Physicists and the National Society of Hispanic Physicists. The meeting brought together 140 UREM physics students, faculty and professional physicists to learn about effective mentoring. Joint IP & Research Hubs: Equity in Graduate Admissions webinar
On March 6th, IGEN Co-PI’s Julie Posselt and Casey Miller led 46 participants through a joint American Geophysical Union/American Geosciences Institute Heads and Chairs webinar and discussion session where they presented data and research about admissions criteria and practices, and its role in perpetuating racial/ethnic inequalities in graduate education. The webinar provided practical strategies for rethinking admissions criteria and processes, introducing principles underlying holistic review and embedding attention to equity throughout the admissions and recruitment process.
