March 2022 Virtual Journal Club

Date: March 7, 2022

Time: 3:00 pm ET | 12:00 pm PT

This meeting will address the climate of bridge programs and how to support a strong sense of belonging for minoritized students. We are excited to discuss the article: “Graduate Bridge Programs as Nepantla for Minoritized Students in STEM: Navigating Challenges With Non-Bridge Peers and Faculty” by Raúl Gamez and colleagues.

During the hour, researchers will present this study of how minoritized students experienced one STEM bridge program, their sometimes-tenuous sense of belonging, and what leaders can do to create an inclusive environment. Given the important role that bridge programs play in broadening the pathway into STEM doctoral programs nationally, faculty and administrators will appreciate the dialogue in this event about creating a more inclusive departmental climate for bridge program students.
