Marcel Agüeros

Dr. Agüeros is an associate professor in the Department of Astronomy of Columbia University. His research interest is in observational stellar astrophysics, and specifically in using new data sets and technologies to address classic questions in stellar evolution. Since starting graduate school, Dr. Agüeros has also focused on increasing the numbers of women and underrepresented minorities in the sciences. He has helped to launch, and directed for a decade, Columbia's Bridge to the PhD Program in STEM, which is working to increase the number of minority students entering PhD programs in the sciences. Since 2017, Dr. Agüeros has been an elected member of the Board of Trustees of the American Astronomical Society (AAS); in 2019 Dr. Agüeros was asked to be the AAS's representative to IGEN.
